Bamble

“It’s just not fair!” My friend exclaimed with a sob.

“I’d say that I’m nice and friendly, and I’d like to think I’m pretty, but I wasn’t enough. He needed more than me.”

“Oh, It’ll be alright Mona, he didn’t deserve you! You will find someone else, someone… better.” I said, attempting to comfort my friend.

It was the 6th week since my friend Mona’s boyfriend had dumped her for someone else, and she was still extremely hurt and hysterical. I felt really bad for her…… but also.. I felt bad for myself. I’ve listened to this speech nearly a gazillion times and I was tired of it. But suddenly, an amazing idea crossed my mind.. I would find someone for Mona! I could set her up on one of those dating apps, what was the name Tonder or Bamble or something. I’ll figure it out.

Then I looked at Mona with a grin, ready to share my ideas, but before I could speak

“What’s the matter? You’re smiling like the Cheshire cat.”

I rolled my eyes and said “ Relax, I’ve just thought of something. How about we get you dating again! With someone better this time. We set you up on Bumble, make you a nice profile and watch as the options appear.”

“That’s a dumb idea Jen, firstly the app is called BUMBLE. And secondly that would involve going out with a stranger! I could get kidnapped!”

“You won’t get kidnapped. Just give it a chance!” I begged my friend.

After much persuasion, Mona finally agreed to give the dating app a try. We spent the evening crafting the perfect profile, carefully selecting Mona’s best photos and writing a witty bio that highlighted her personality.

A few days later, Mona matched with a guy named Ryan. He seemed nice enough, so she agreed to meet him for coffee. I was relieved that Mona was finally putting herself out there again.

But as the days passed without hearing from Mona, my worry grew. I tried calling and texting her, but she didn’t respond. Panic set in when she didn’t show up for work.

Frantic, I contacted the police and reported Mona missing. Days turned into weeks, and there was still no sign of her.

Then, one evening, I received a call from an unknown number. My heart raced as I answered.

“Hello?” I said, my voice trembling.

“Jen, it’s me,” a familiar voice said. It was Mona.

“Oh my god, Mona! Where are you? Are you okay?” I asked, tears streaming down my face.

“I’m okay now. I… I was kidnapped,” Mona confessed.

My heart sank at her words, but relief washed over me knowing she was alive.

“But… but how did you escape?” I asked, my voice barely above a whisper.

“It’s a long story, but the guy who kidnapped me… he’s not who I thought he was. He… he saved me, Jen. He saved me.”

As Mona recounted her harrowing ordeal, I listened in disbelief. But amidst the fear and trauma, something unexpected happened. Mona found solace in the arms of her captor, Ryan.

“He was there for me when I needed someone the most, Jen. And… and I think I’m falling for him,” Mona admitted, her voice trembling with emotion.

I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. My friend had been through hell, yet somehow, she found love in the most unlikely of places.

In the weeks that followed, Mona and Ryan’s bond only grew stronger. Despite the circumstances of their meeting, they found comfort and support in each other’s arms.

And as I watched them together, I realized that sometimes love has a way of finding us when we least expect it. And maybe, just maybe, Mona’s kidnapping was the twist of fate that brought her the love she deserved all along.
